Post-Talaiotic MASKS:
Mask and face have been in perpetual struggle for the superposition of visibilities, although not always when one disappears the other becomes visible. Both pose a game of fact and concealment, of concealment and unveiling.
The face is in some way a mask, a mask drawn on the paper of the skin. And each face contains a different and unique drawing, which reinforced with the word forms the contour of identity. Apart from the face or the mask-face, there is the mask-mask. This has two dimensions: that of research and that of representation. Under the painted, sculpted or engraved mask, man becomes aware of his place in the universe, sees his life and death inscribed in a collective drama and gives it meaning. That is why the mask is a liberation, since it allows us to make another reality present.
In the face of the society of spectacle, in which cultural merchandise prevails, masks call for breaking with the single truth and experimenting with other forms of constructing truth. (Eudaimonia Ensemble)
The artistic and ritual masks that surround us today are inspired by the ancient Talayotic inhabitants of Menorca. They are a free invention of what could be the primitive art of these islanders. The Talayotic people created their villages and monuments with the large stones they found in the countryside. Enric Servera has created these characters, with a primitive air, with materials found on the shore of the sea of Menorca. They are made with wood, plastic, remains of nets, ropes… all current human waste.
